Lady Bird Lake

The Bats under Congress Bridge

Arguably the most popular attraction in Austin is the urban bat colony residing under the Congress Bridge. This is known as the largest colony of its kind in North America. You can see the Mexican free-tail bats emerging from under the bridge every night for most of the year from March through November.

You can view the bats in the viewing area next to the Congress bridge or by standing on top of it. There are also bat viewing tours that will take you on the water for a fee. 

SoCo District

The District of SoCo stands for South Congress is a trendy neighborhood that serves as a landmark of the Keep Austin Weird cultural movement. You’ll find many clothing stores here that mainly sell retro or thrift clothing. 

It’s not just the shopping that’s keeping SoCo cool. You can take a seat at one of the restaurants in the district, most of which have outdoor patios and delicious food.

Blanton Museum of Art

Blanton Museum of Art is a must-visit for any art aficionado. There are over 18,000 pieces of art on the walls of this museum ranging from contemporary works to Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces.

The museum is located inside the University of Texas at Austin campus. This institution is known as one of the largest university art museums in the United States.
